Movies

Two movies in one weekend. What is this, 1998?

The first movie Mike and I saw was Shutter Island. Just a short little review: IT'S CRAZY. It messed with my head. IT'S CRAZY. I had no idea going in, what it was about. To be honest, I knew it had Leonardo DiCaprio and was directed by Martin Scorcese, so I figured it was a mob type crime drama. Maybe the fact that I was SO WRONG about this made the movie even crazier to me. I don't know. All I know is... wait for it... IT'S CRAZY.

On Saturday I went all by my lonesome to see Celine Dion's movie "Through the Eyes of the World". It is a 2 hour film that's sort of like having VIP access to her recent world tour. (Which we saw when it came to San Antonio). I am really disappointed in any of you who might be thinking while reading this "Wow, I didn't even know Sarah liked Celine Dion...". Don't you know me at all?!?! She's only my favorite person ever. No dramatics involved. (okay, maybe some dramatics involved). Anyhoodles, this movie was like a little slice of heaven.

First of all. Two hours at the movies BY MYSELF? Nice. Mom, I really am sorry you couldn't join me. I know you would have loved it. But don't feel bad about canceling, it was very nice to have some quiet time and alone time. Secondly, the movie's only soundrtack was Celine's songs. Awesome. Third, it reaffirmed that Celine is a generous, loving, sweet, funny, talented mother, wife and singer. She is AMAZING. I left the movie wanting to see it again. I seriously would have stayed to watch the next showing, if there was a next showing. It was only released for 2 weeks, and only once a day at Gateway during those 2 weeks. It's now GONE FOREVER!!!

Hoping that she will release it on DVD. Then it can be in constant rotation with "Celine Dion Live In Vegas", which rarely leaves the dvd player in our bedroom.

VIVA CELINE! :-)

An Afternoon at the Park

Saturday was such a beautiful day. And Addison seemed to finally be recovering from a week of sickness. So after I got home from THE BEST MOVE EVER (see next post), Mike and I took Addy to the park to enjoy the day.

I drove to the park, while Mike walked Addison in the stroller. Pretty ridiculous, right? What can I say? It hurts to walk short distances (i.e. from the living room to the kitchen), long distances just don't happen anymore.

Ahem. So. Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

Grrr!

If you work for me, I don't think it's too much to ask of you to:

a) Come to work when you're supposed to.
b) Do your job when you do come.
c) Not complain to me about your job when it's clearly stated in your contract what your job requirements are.

I mean, REALLY.

Snowapalooza 2010

In case you haven't heard, it snowed today in Austin, Texas. I'm not sure of total amounts, but it really did snow all day and left a beautiful blanket of snow over everything outside.

Addison hasn't been feeling well, so I wasn't super excited about taking her out to play in it, but her Daddy's enthusiasm won me over. So we got her bundled up and headed out back.

She was excited for maybe a minute.

Then she got whiney.

Then her ever resourceful parents gave her socks to wear on her hands since we don't have any gloves or mittens, seeing how we live in TEXAS. And she was happy again.

She pretty much immediately decided to go back inside. "I'm cold!"

Here are some other shots...

Our puny little snowman in the foreground (Mike SWEARS he didn't give her boobs!) compared to the awesome snowman in the background, across the street.

Vista Ridge Dance Championship

Saturday, February 20th began at 7:00am when I checked our teams into our first team competition of the season. I hobbled (wasn't to waddling... YET) in and took care of everything that needed to be taken care of: turning in music, taking care of payment, etc.

Before going to the dressing room, I made a direct route to the directors hospitality suite for some coffee and breakfast so I could really start my day off right. And guess what I found in this hospitality room? Instant. Coffee. Blech. I got on the phone and asked Bess to bring me my coffee. No way was I going to be the smiley, nice dance teacher I needed to be with sciatica shooting down my left leg AND without coffee.

So, I headed to our dressing room and helped get our girls ready for their first performances and to brief the moms on the plan of attack for the day. And I drank my coffee that sweet Bess brought me.

We danced and ran back and forth and danced and ran back and forth and danced... ALL DAY LONG. Until 7:30pm. By the end of the day, my sciatica was shocking me all the way below the knee, and my hobble turned into a full-on waddle.

Addy did come for a few hours here and there and LOVED every second. She got to go to the practice gym where the teams rehearse right before competing, she watched the competition from front row, and she got to hang out in the dressing room with her favorite people, "the big girls". And of course she wore her tutu (which she got compliments on all day long and LOVED).

Here's a run-down of awards our girls received:
Here's a run-down of our division 1 trophies we received. Division 1 is when all judges gave us a score of 90 or better.
Junior Rising Star Division 1:Lyrical and Modern.
Rising Star Purple Division 1:Modern and Jazz.
Rising Star White Division 1:Jazz.
Envision Division 1:Modern.
All solos received division 1.
Junior Rising Stars: 1st place in Jazz, Lyrical and Modern.
Rising Stars Purple: 1st place in Modern, Jazz and Lyrical.
Rising Stars White: 1st place in Jazz and Novelty, 2nd place in Lyrical.
Envision: 1st place in Jazz, Lyrical and Modern.
Trio received 2nd place.

At the end of the day, a girl who worked all day long at the competition came up to me and said "I just want you to know that you were my favorite person all day." I looked at her like she was crazy and said "WHY?" She told me that I was smiley all day and always positive, and she dealt with grumpy people all day long, and she was always relieved when she saw it was me coming her way. How nice is that? I am glad that through horrible pain in my leg, and just the general stresses of competition, I was able to make people happy because I was happy. :)

Valentines Day

Sorry about the lack of posts lately. Life got in the way of blogging...

I hope everyone had a nice Valentines Day. Ours was different than any V-Day we've ever celebrated in the past, but it was wonderful all the same.

Mike and I ate Lobster, Stuffed Shrimp, Seafood Pasta, Gumbo, Grilled Shrimp and topped it off with banana pudding and my personal favorite, praline cheesecake. All courtesy of Pappadeaux take-out. We ate it while sitting on the floor around our coffee table watching the Olympics. Addison enjoyed corn dog bites and french fries. It was a decadent meal all around ;)

That's really all we did! After dinner, we resumed our normal schedule- gave Addy a bath, put her to bed... and I stayed up til midnight finalizing our summer schedule for the studio!

So romantic, I know. But whatever. It was just another day- one where we shared our love of each other, our daughter and yummy seafood!

PJ Party, take two!

The Pajama party for our 4-6 grade team was such a success, I decided my 1-3 grade team needed to experience one as well.

And of course Addy, too.

"She said stupid"

One of our favorite songs on the Glee soundtrack, "Standing at your door", as Addy likes to call it ("it's really called My life would suck without you"), apparently has a "bad word" in it.

"Mommy, she said stupid."

This is the first time I've ever heard Addy repeat a word that we don't want her to repeat. And if I'm being honest, this surprises me, because she does hear more than just "stupid" on a more-regular-than-I'd-like-to-admit basis.

Anyway, my reaction was "yes, she does say that. That's a bad word, I don't want you to say it, ok?"

"She said stupid?"

"Yes, Addison, but don't repeat it. I don't want you saying it."

"Why did she say STUPID?"

"ADDISON. We can't listen to the song anymore. And you can't say that word ANYMORE. Do you understand?"

"I like Standing on your door! I won't say the bad word!"

So, now, we fight in the car, because the poor child NEEDS to hear the song, or else her life will just END right then and there. And I know that she just wants to hear the word stupid... so I don't let her listen to it.

There have been a couple of times that the song has come on and I didn't notice (probably was on the phone), and lo and behold... know what she does?

"Mommy, she said stupid."

Dancing Queen

If Addison had it her way, she would wear a leotard and/or tutu every minute of every hour of every day. She sleeps in dance clothes. Getting her dressed on school days is not fun for Mommy. So Mommy lets her wear her dance clothes pretty much any time she's not at school.

The other day we went to Chick Fil A and Addison spent most of her time dancing in the middle of the play room, not climbing and sliding with the other kids. This is very normal for Addy- she dances all day long. She spins, kicks, arabesques, plies, even does floor work. She goes to work with me on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons when I teach my Junior Rising Stars (1-3 graders) and has gotten to where she stretches with the girls and likes to go across the floor with them. I promise she does this and LOVES this all on her own! Needless to say, I love it too.

So, today the camera was nearby...

(I feel like a broken record, but you must ignore the messy house and hair in the face)

Pertinent Information

You'll all sleep better after reading this post, I'm sure.

After three consecutive trips to the chiropractor this week, my sciatic issues are finally easing up. I think this might also have to do with the baby switching positions- I am now feeling kicks higher up in my belly than I used to. For a while it was only my bladder getting kicked, and that was getting old. Let's hope I wake up tomorrow and still feel this way.

After having TWO teachers give me notice that they're leaving, I placed an add on craigslist: Hiring dance teacher in Cedar Park. I've received tons of responses and am now in the process of interviewing. Which is strange, because I really don't know how to interview. I just remind myself before they come in that they don't know me, and I can be whoever I want to be when I'm asking them questions. Then I just end up being me anyway. But so far, it's worked out. I have them coming in to teach trial classes over the next couple weeks, which I'm excited about. Hopefully we'll gain some great talent! So far, the prospects are good!

Goodnight. Sleep tight!
