Addison, the Aspiring Rising Star

Tonight was our first of many competitions this season. It was an optional competition for our soloists. Because Melissa and I strongly disagree with the politics behind this certain competition, I chose not to register any of my dancers, or have them to use the Dance eMotions name. But, it was a cheap and local competition so a lot of our girls participated. And being the caring dance teachers that we are, we couldn't have them perform without us there. ;) So, we went to support our girls.

ANYway. I'm glad I went because my girls did REALLY well and Addison TOTALLY enjoyed watching. As soon as we left, she asked me if we could practice the dances when we got home. I hid my excitement as best I could and was all, "sure, if you want to."

Of course, the second we got home, she didn't let me forget that we had to practice.

"Alright, mama. First we need to practice the black and blue dance." Whoa. Hold on. The first dance we watched was a little girl from another studio wearing a black and blue costume. Of course I don't know any of her dance, so I made up some steps. "No mama, that's not what she did. It looked like THIS." And she proceeded to shake her hips like the little girl did. (It was a very sassy, hip-shaking dance. And Addy does NOT have the hip shake down. And I'm totally okay with that).

"Ok. Now the bird dance." Again, I can't believe she remembered this! The second solo we saw was a ballet piece- the little girl had a bird-inspired tutu and routine. She got on the floor in the same beginning position the little girl had. Crazy!

"So. Now let's practice Hailey's dance. Now Sarah. Now Ally. And Erin. And Claire..." and she literally listed all eight of my dancers IN ORDER. She told me exactly what their costumes looked like and was able to do a bit of each of their dances (in her own way, of course).

All I can think about now is having her compete a solo next year WHICH I KNOW IS TOTALLY CRAZY BUT I CAN'T HELP IT. I mean, she's obsessed with all things dance. Oh, and you might have seen the video of her dancing that I posted last night. I couldn't leave it on the blog, seeing how she wasn't wearing any clothes... but if you did happen to see it, I hope you loved it, because it was totally cute and adorable and I LOVE THAT SHE LOVES TO DANCE!

WHY?

Why, oh why is my family sicker than any other family I know???

Currently the following illnesses are floating around our house, being passed around quicker than I can spray every surface with lysol:

Stomach bug: Sarah. Gross. It's been a full 24 hours and I'm just now feeling okay with being anywhere other than my bed or the bathroom. Stomach is still cramping. Is accompanied by massive headache, probably from dehydration.

Cough and low fever: Addison. Also going on 24 hours. She says the cough hurts. It sounds bad. She also has goopy green snot.

High fever and congestion: Aiden. 102 fever. Lots of snot, just like his sister. He slept all day yesterday. Literally, all day. From 9am-4pm. He's not interested in sleeping today- I can't seem to get him comfortable. He also doesn't really want to nurse.

Mike... Mike's just fine. For now. If he gets sick, I don't know what I'll do. Seriously.

So, what is it about me and my kids that we catch EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING??? BOO!

Random Cell Phone Pictures

My Big Girl!

Abigail and Annalie got their ears pierced over the Holidays. You could tell Addison was impressed, though she never said much about it. Mike and I asked her if she would ever like to get her ears pierced, and her answer was (the typical) "no, not yet". We left it alone, as we weren't in any real hurry to pierce her ears, anyway.

So, yesterday we were at the mall and she asked us if she could get her ears pierced. We kind of said "maybe" and kept moving along... she asked again and again. In a very polite way, might I add... there was no whining or begging. So we explained to her that once they were pierced that the earrings couldn't come out and that it was a very big girl decision to be making. She understood and marched right up into the chair and GOT HER EARS PIERCED!

Here she is right before:

And during:(she chose pink diamonds, of course)

She really didn't know what she was getting herself into, so we don't really have a great after shot, since there were some tears involved. Here's one I got in the car on the way home. The tears you see in her eyes have nothing to do with the piercing and everything to do with... oh, I don't remember anymore... drama of some sort.

Not sure the last picture was so great... here are a couple more not so great ones (stupid bad lighting in the bathroom). But she was modeling her earrings, so I can't not post them!

I can't believe she's going to be 4 in a few months. She's so big. And sweet. And smart. And beautiful. And I AM SO PROUD.

Uncle Fuzzy Visits

Hi, Uncle John :-)

Here's the one flippin photo I got while you and Oro were here.

Don't you just love it?

Seriously, though, I'm sorry I didn't get more pictures of you guys, of you guys with the kids, and most importantly, of you with ME ;) I was off my game while you guys were here and I really do apologize.

Sorry we missed the great BBQ taste test (Saltlick vs. Green Mesquite. Sounds like Saltlick was the overwhelming favorite). Glad we got to enjoy Fonda San Miguel with you guys, though! And thanks for leaving A Time to Kill. It's actually next on my list of books to read! Oh, and even though you encouraged our children to pick their noses and be smart with us parents, we still love you and hope you and Oro will come back real soon. :-)

Lots of love,
Sarah

Does This Make Me Old?

*moments* I've always known would happen, but seemed completely surreal as they came and went:

-when the kids who were two year olds when I opened my studio became teenagers.

-these students are now old enough to babysit my kids.

-Addison is now older than some of my current dance students.

-my first dance student got MARRIED.

ANGEL GOT MARRIED. WHAT?!?!

She was a beautiful bride. It was a beautiful wedding. I didn't get very many pictures, but here's the best of the few I got.

I don't know if Angel reads this blog. But if you do, Angel, you were seriously gorgeous and I'm so happy for you and Chris and love you both very much :-) Sincerely, your very old dance teacher

It's Been a While

Life has been totally crazy. I've obviously been terrible about keeping up with this. In an effort to catch up, this will probably be a totally random and really long post. Maybe after I get a few things blogged it will be easier to tackle the rest. So, here goes. Let the randomness begin.

Addison has been coming up with some crazy names for her dolls and horses lately. My favorite ones, off the top of my head, are Morzic, Argis, Borzic. She also will make up stories or songs and she likes to use the word organize a lot. I guess she likes the sound the letter "z" makes.

This one is totally random, but it just happened yesterday and for some reason gave me and Mike a good laugh. For a while now, Addison hasn't called me "mommy", but "MOM". Often said in a whiny/know it all/TEENAGER tone: "MOOOOOOM". When she's upset, she'll call me "momma" but NEVER "mommy". ANYWAY, Mike and I were talking to her about that yesterday, asking her to please at least call me "momma", not "mom". She asked Mike if she could call him "dad" and of course he said "NO!". So she suggested the name "handsome". I joked about how it would sound for Addison to say "hey, handsome" when addressing Mike. Then she suggested the name "handsome booty" and this REALLY tickled me and Mike. That's all. Seems now that it's in writing that it's not funny. Oh well.

The next story is about poop. You've been warned. Most of you know that Addison has struggled with pooping. I think she is fearful of it hurting... stemming back to a LONG time ago when she struggled with truly horrible constipation. So, she still goes in a diaper at the end of every day. If we withhold the diaper and insist she use the potty she will literally hold it for DAYS. To the point where it really does hurt her. We try and try and TRY to convince her that it won't hurt her, that she's too old for a diaper, blah blah blah. WELL, LAST NIGHT SHE SAID SHE WAS READY TO GO ON THE POTTY! AND SHE WENT TWICE AND ONCE TODAY! HOLY CRAP I'M EXCITED! (no pun intended)

Aiden's awake from his nap now, which means that I can't have the computer open because he'll just drool, bite, or pound on it. So some upcoming posts you can all look forward to: Uncle John's visit, Angel's wedding and Addison's spontaneous big girl decision she made at the mall today.

Sitting on the edge of your seat, aren't you?

sickness

I got a new phone. Totally annoyed that I got it like, 15 days before Verizon announced they're offering the iPhone. But whatever. That's beside the point. The point is, I got a Droid and can now easily blog from my phone.

Why would I want to do that? I know, I thought the same thing. But here I am, at 1:30 in the morning blogging from my phone.

Aiden is sick. Miserable. Currently sleeping on my chest. If he's not sleeping on my chest, he's awake and I'm holding him. He cries, "mama, mama" if I'm not holding him. It's so sad. He vomited a few times this morning (yesterday morning?) but hasn't for the rest of the day. I took him to the doctor this afternoon (more on that later) and he thinks he has what I had Sunday and Monday. Duh. I was achy, my head hurt, I was just flat out miserable. Hopefully tomorrow he'll start to feel better. And hopefully both of us get some sleep tonight. (I'm not counting on it)

We went to the doctor today for Addison. She is STILL complaining that her ears hurt. Thankfully they're not still infected. He thinks that nasal pressure is bothering her and causing her ear pain. He prescribed her a nasal spray... so we'll see.

My fingers and hand hurt. This whole blogging from the phone thing is for the birds. I'm going to try to sleep sitting up while holding a big baby. And on that note, I bid you farewell.

Privacy, Please?

Yeah, about that.

You may be wondering why I've not gone private yet. I guess the simplest way to put it is to say that I've changed my mind. So many people came out of the woodwork after my post last month (or was it two months ago?)... and I realized that there are quite a few of you who read the blog, with new people joining the group quite frequently! So, I'm holding off on making it private for a while.

I just won't post the pictures of Addison in her skivvies. It's probably better that way, anyway.

Houston

We took a 2 day trip down to Houston to visit Mike's grandparents (Marshall's dad). Marshall's brother and sister were there, along with their families. Becky and her family left the first night, so I don't have many pics of them.

Here's a pic of the whole family!

I took this picture of a photo hanging in their kitchen. It really fascinated me... knowing what I know about Marshall's childhood. I don't know who reads this blog, so I'll just leave it at that. :-)

Eddie's (Mike's uncle) sons, Tristan and Austin.

Eddie's wife, Alpana, with Aiden.

Out to eat at Chuy's.

I got to sneak away to shop at the Galleria for a bit. I couldn't resist buying Addison a candy bar with her name on it! And a big lollipop too!

We had a fun time visiting with everyone. We don't get to see Mike's side of the family often enough. (And I'm sorry I didn't get more pics with Grammi and Grandpa, or with the Adair grandparents! Almost every photo I took turned out blurry!)
