Update

My last post was hopeful that the HFMD was passing.

It didn't pass. It's still here.

Last night was another rough night, this morning was awful. Poor, poor, POOR baby girl.

Hand Foot and Mouth Disease

The worst name for a virus EVER. I mean, really.

So, yeah, Addison has it. It's so sad. High fever (102-103) and painful sores in her mouth. Her main complaint is ear pain, but crazily enough, her ears are totally healthy... it's just deferred pain from her mouth. (no hand or feet rashes... not yet, anyway)

Poor baby. The last 2 days have been miserable. You may remember that she is TERRIBLE at taking medicine. She has gotten a little better... we no longer have to sit on top of her, and she rarely throws up after we give it to her. We still have to force it into her mouth, and force juice or water afterward to keep it down, but it has gotten easier. We *might* have also bribed her with a new toy in order to get her to take her first dose of tylenol... she was burning up and just so miserable, all we wanted was for her to be comfortable. So, yes, we bought her a new toy- a "baby princess Aurora" doll that she is in LOVE with. I actually think the doll has brought her comfort over the last two days, so judge us all you want for buying her a new toy... it was good for her!!!

In addition to missing school today, the REAL bummer here is that we had to miss cousin Abigail's 7th birthday party. It was a "royal ball" and Addison was so excited about it. I haven't told her we've missed it yet. She's going to be devastated when she finds out.

She ate her first real food again tonight- a grilled cheese sandwich. Before that all she'd had were popsicles- for an entire 2 days. So, it looks like we just might be on the road to recovery. Fingers crossed.

Edited to add: Oh my goodness, I can't believe I left out this super amazing detail: Yesterday Addison wanted to watch a movie, so I chose 4 selections and let her pick the one she wanted to watch. I picked Cinderella, some Barbie movie, The Incredibles and Troop Beverly Hills. SHE CHOSE TROOP BEVERLY HILLS! I wish everyone understood how much this means to me. I love it almost as much as I love seeing her love for dance. This movie was my FAVORITE growing up, and I still love it just as much. If you don't know this movie, you HAVE to check it out. Addison and I highly recommend it.

Seriously Serious

I like when I'm playing with Addison, and she's trying to be serious, and her mouth gets all twisty and she's trying to hold back a smile.

And when she talks nonsense... like it's serious business. "45 8 is on the second team. 45 8. And I will just cooperate." What does she think this means?

"Alright. It's just some exciting news on the worksheet. I can't believe it. It's incredible!"

She has a clipboard that she carries around, and I'm realizing she's channeling her inner Ms. Carol. "Alright students. It's time for chapel." Or "Alright. Let's get to work."

All with a twisted mouth so as to maintain complete composure during all of her "work".

Summa summa summa TIME

Today I got Addison signed up for swim lessons and gymnastics at the Y!

She'll swim July 5-15 from 11:15-12:30.

She'll be in the 4-5 year old gymnastics class all summer on Tuesday nights from 5:00-6:15.

One of my neighbors is going to have an art camp that Addison will attend as well.

And of course she'll be taking dance and attending all of our Princess Camps.

We'll also be offering Theater Arts at the studio this summer, so we're going to throw Addison in those classes as well.

With Mike staying home with the kids all summer, this should help out a little :-)

eating dirt

I consider it a victory that he made it 11 months before tasting his first handful of dirt.

wilderness girl

Troop Beverly Hills has taught her well.

As she went across, she said "Don't look down. Stay strong". Just like they do in the movie.

She'd make an excellent Beverly Hills wilderness girl.

Easter

The kids looked so cute (and so did I, if I do say so myself), and THESE are the only photos I have to share. Boo. Having 2 kids makes taking pictures much more difficult, evidently.

Hope all of you had a fun, love-filled Easter!

catching butterflies

While mike and I pick up the house, addy is hard at work "catching butterflies". Neither one of us are sure what she means by that, but she sure is taking it seriously.

Austin City Limits

I think Paul Mitchell is sitting next to me. Edited to add: I am SURE I was sitting next to Paul Mitchell. Very weird. The show- Jonny Lang and George Thorogood. It was SOOO good! Jonny Lang can PLAY SOME GUITAR. George Thorogood is an awesome showman. So the two of them together put on an awesome show. Thank you, Gloria and Marshall, for taking us!

crazy hat parade

Addison was very specific about this design. She had a vision and saw it through. I couldn't stay for the parade, but something tells me she had a good time.

Clash of the Titans

Is it normal for a not-yet 4 year old to be entranced by this movie?

Here's one of my theater arts combo students, miss Scarlett channeling her inner Taylor Swift.

It's pretty much awesome.

(yes I did receive permission from her parents before posting this!)

Bossypants

I just bought this book tonight, and it has me in stitches. I love Tina Fey. To quote Laineygossip, I want to be Tina Fey when I grow up.

embarrassing

Last night at around 11pm, I took my nightly medicine, like I always do. I laid down in bed and couldn't get comfortable as my back was bothering me. It was right in the center of my back and it quickly escalated into a very strong pain. I thought that lying on the floor might help, but not only did it not help, it almost felt like it made it worse. I started developing other symptoms too. A burning in my chest made me think it might just be heartburn. I took a zantak and hoped for the best.

The burning in my chest increased, and my arms became tingly and numb. I couldn't catch my breath and my back pain was excruciating. I was freaking out. So was mike. At about 11:45 we decided I needed to go into the er. At times I honestly wondered if I was having a heart attack!

Mike's mom came over to stay with the kids, and mike and I headed to the er. I was in so much pain, it seriously rivaled labor. I was in tears and trying to breathe through the pain. I had such a tight grip on Mike's hand I wouldn't be surprised if I bruised it.

So, we got to the er, and they do some chest xrays, and they also gave me what they called a "gi cocktail". The pain in my back decreased as did the burning in my chest and back.

Turns out the pill I took earlier got lodged in my esophogus causing reflux which was what was causing my pain.

I went to the er for heartburn. I feel so stupid.
