sad story

This just happened:

While sorting laundry, Mike holds up a pair of my pretty risque "jammies".

He seems confused. "I don't remember you wearing these lately."

"Oh, I didn't. I used them to wipe kid snot."

Oy.

Poop

I'm sorry, y'all. I don't know what else to do here. Maybe somebody will impart some wisdom here and help a mama out. Because I'm at a loss.

So.

Addison pees on the toilet, no problem. No accidents in a LONG time. Her bowel movements are very consistent, once in the early afternoon and once before bedtime. But always in a diaper. Backstory: There has always been hesitation when it comes to pooping... she's suffered from some constipation issues early on, daily miralax has helped with this. But she still obviously has some hurdles to overcome. She always insisted she'd go on the toilet "when I'm 4". So, we were patient... figured that Addison is strong-willed and decisive, and would prove to us that on her fourth birthday she was ready.

Her 4th birthday came and went. She said she "didn't feel it".

The next day she had the tiniest of accidents in her panties. Very soft. Not constipation. We sit her on the toilet and she says she "can't".

The next day, same thing.

Same thing the next day. And then a HUGE poop in her panties.

I get angry. Threaten lots of bad things... she is in tears every time, saying "it hurts". I look at her bottom, it's not red, I see no sores, etc.

She has a well-check. Doctor says everything looks fine. He says we have two options: go back to a diaper until she's ready (not an option as far as Mike and I are concerned) or boot-camp style, go without panties or anything for 3 or 4 days until she's "trained". This option is easier said than done. Um... Mike and I both work. And Addison is THE MOST strong-willed child I've ever met. Not an exaggeration.

She will tell us when she needs to go, and then when she sits down, she holds it in, cries, and says it hurts.

But then she goes in her panties, we ask her if it hurt when she does this. She says no. So then it shouldn't hurt when she sits down, right?

Tonight we took a toy away from her after she had a small "accident". Told her she could get it back once she started going on the toilet. Then, for whatever reason, she told me to take her FAVORITE toy that she received on her birthday. Asked me to "babysit" her.

Um, okay? I guess?

SO WHAT THE HELL DO I DO NOW?

Answers to frequently asked questions:
yes, we read to her when she's on the toilet
we also let her watch videos and play games on our phones
we try to keep the mood "light"
the stools are definitely soft. not hard, no reason for it to hurt.

I'll say it again. I'm at a loss. Help?!?

Well Visit

Our one year and four year well checks went well!

Addison is at 85% height, 75% weight
Aiden is at 75% height, 25% weight

Addison has 20/20 vision!

Other than these facts, the appointment went according to routine. They did get their shots :-( More than one nurse said to me "you're very brave!" as I had a crying 4 year old and a crying 1 year old on each hip as I was trying to leave the office! Oh well, not the best planning on my part.

Addison's 4th Birthday

Wow. I can't believe our little baby is 4 years old. I played a game once where I had to describe something with 9 words, so I'm going to do this to describe Addison. Addison is:
Smart
Stubborn
Artistic
Empathetic
Dramatic
Silly
Fun
Girly
Awesome

Our Sweet Addison.

Addison decided she wanted to have her party at Sharkey's cuts for kids. It was an all girl party, which was a bummer for her boy cousins and friends, but it WAS fun for the girls! They all got manicures, hair up-dos, makeup and had a fashion show down the runway. They were asked how old they are and what they want to be when they grow up and these facts were announced as they came through the curtains. Addison said she wants to be a mommy. So sweet.

Addison getting her make up done :-)

Our camera battery died :-( so the pictures end here. If you attended the party and got any cute photos, could you send them my way?

It was a really fun party for Addison, getting pampered with her friends. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, you know? After Sharkeys, we gathered at our house so that Addison could open her presents. Then we all (my mom, sister, neices and nephews, and Mike's parents), went out to celebrated Addison's birthday one last time at Jardin Corona.

Thank you to everybody who took time out of your day to come and help Addison celebrate. She's SO happy that she's FOUR!

Movies in the Park

Thank you J and K for inviting us! We had so much fun and are definitely planning on coming again. (except we might pass on the movies in the pool...that just sounds...not fun.)

throwing tantrums is exhausting

After three MASSIVE tantrums today, this is where addison ended up. Asleep in the hallway outside of her bedroom. She passed out mid-hissy fit.

Addison's FOURTH birthday is on Saturday.

I've overscheduled myself and am teaching Saturday morning from 10-12, and then have our auditions for next year's competition teams from 2-7. So I'll be away working during, pretty much, her entire birthday.

I know, I know... "it's just a DAY." I know. But just as much as it's HER birthday, I feel like it's mine too, in a way. Four years ago, my life forever changed. And I want to celebrate the perfect, sweet, amazing child we are blessed with!

Instead I'll be working. Boo.

it's here!

One week shy of a year old, aiden's first tooth has appeared!

Late Night Snack

In allegiance to my devotion to ice cream, I only thought it appropriate to taste-test the newest Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor, Late Night Snack.

I can't put into words how delish this ice cream is. It is vanilla bean ice cream, fudge covered potato chip clusters & a salty caramel swirl. I only felt it appropriate, you know... in allegiance to my devotion to ice cream, to eat a LARGE bowl of this tonight.

Haymitch

Caesar Flickerman

Gale

Peeta. I'm not excited about this one, but we'll see...

The Lincoln Lawyer

I stayed up until 2:30am last night finishing this stupid book. I mean, it wasn't stupid. It was actually really good. But the dang book freaked me out and kept me up WAY TOO LATE. Usually with suspenseful or scary things (books, movies, etc.), I divert my attention or skip over parts that are too intense. I just don't like feeling stressed out. But with this book, I didn't skip over anything and I got super creeped out more than once. I even had to turn on the hall light at one point so I could see outside of our room! And once I was finally finished reading, I was SO STRESSED OUT.

And today I'm tired.

Mother's Day

I hope all the mama's out there had an awesome day. Before I get to the details of MY mother's day, I just want to say.

LOL oh my LOLOL

So. I had the best mother's day. I love my family so much and I just LOVE days devoted to celebrating family and togetherness. Gah, when did I become such a SAP?

Mike let me sleep in and brought me coffee for breakfast. Thanks goodness we're not to the point of Addison wanting to cook me breakfast yet... I mean, what? I'm sure her breakfasts will be delicious.

We went to Mike's parents for an early lunch, and Gloria, you outdid yourself this year. We had ham, homemade mac and cheese, homemade potatoes au gratin, fruit salad, green beans almondine, it was all so yummy.

I think this is the best picture we got of me with my adorable kids. Addison made this face in almost every picture I took with her yesterday. And Aiden was almost always trying to grab something in every picture we took of him. And I don't have a double chin in this one, so we're going with this one.

Here's Grammi with her grandbabies. They LOVE their Grammi!

We headed home so Aiden could nap, and I pretty much ran out the door to get a pedicure. And THEN I TOOK A NAP!

My day could have ended here and I would have been happy, but we still had celebrations with my family planned. We hung out at my mom's place before our dinner reservations at the Melting Pot. Here's a sweet pic of Addison and Abigail.

Our reservations were at 7:30. Since it was so late, I had nanny Kat stay home with Aiden. Such a good decision, we didn't leave the restaurant until 10:45.

(oh and mike bought me the new britney spears cd and i love it so much. judge me all you want. i like britney spears. ok? i feel so ashamed. but so happy. i love that stupid cd.)

A card that addy made for me at school. She wrote her name all by herself. Bad mom alert: I had no idea she could do this. I even "tested" her when we got home to make sure, and sure enough, she can write her name all by herself. I am so proud of her!

(Do I really need to point out that yes, I'm aware that she got a few letters backward/wrong? Maybe, maybe not. But I just did.) (I'm STILL PROUD)

One of my mother's day gifts from addison. So simple, but I will cherish it always.

News (sorta)

Today during my Rising Stars I class, a little girl burped during our water break and the girls broke out into a fit of giggles. Being silly, I said "eew, Gross! I NEVER burp!" The girls all giggled some more, because I guess at some point they may have heard me burp. Maybe.

Then one of the girls said "You know, I've NEVER seen my mom burp. Not ever!" (this figures. Her mom is pretty much perfect. This is another example of her perfection. Gross.)

So, I started asking the other girls if they've ever seen their moms and dads burp. I was curious, okay?

One of the dancers replied... "hmmm... no... but I HAVE smelled my dad fart!"

This little girl may or may not have been my niece.

So Much Love

After taking a few pictures the other day, I realized how long it's been since I'd used my camera! So, I ended up taking A LOT of pictures that day. Like, a lot. Here are just a few of my favorites:

To Lighten the Mood

The blog has been so down in the dumps lately with all of the sad illness updates. Here are some photos of the cutest baby ever to put a smile back on our faces.

Still Sick

I can only imagine how unentertaining (yes, that's a word. I googled it, ok?) it must be to check in and see updates on how sick my kid is. I'm probably giving myself way too much credit here, actually. Thinking that anyone comes here to be "entertained". Maybe all y'all do want are updates... I don't know.

Whatever.

Addison is still VERY sick. Saturday night her fever got to 104 under the arm. Isn't that like 105? Yikes. She woke up today with fever (only 101 this time) so I took her in to the doctor. She now has a sinus infection and an ear infection. She is MISERABLE. I just feel so badly for her. I wish there was something I could do to help her. I feel so helpless. It's just so sad all around.
