All About Aiden

Where to start? Aiden is a week old now and is totally a dream baby. He's just perfect.

He sleeps well- sometimes gives me 5 hour stretches at night (usually 4), and eats about every 3 hours during the day. He latched onto the breast immediately in the hospital, and we haven't had any troubles. He usually eats for about 20 minutes on each side at each feeding. And I swear he's already getting heavier in my arms.

Our only issue... he doesn't burp well. And when he doesn't get a good burp, the poor baby is so uncomfortable, he gets VERY FUSSY. I still haven't found out the magic method to get him to burp- I swear I've tried every technique I've heard of. Any suggestions? Once we do get the little burp, all is well again, and the fussiness is over- just like that. But sometimes the fussiness lasts 2-3 hours, all waiting for a damn burp!

Aiden weighed 8 lbs when he was born, and 5 days later at his check-up he was 7 lbs 8 oz. We go back on Monday, I fully expect him to have surpassed the 8 lb mark, and maybe even be closer to 9.

He is so sweet. I sing to him and he "coos" back (I SWEAR he does!). When I stop singing, he stops, and when I resume, he starts back up. It's just the most precious thing.

He is STRONG! He lifts his head like it's nothing. Lay him on his tummy, and he'll look up, and around, and around some more. I've never ever seen a newborn with such strength. Crazy!

Just a little useless fact: his umbilical cord stump fell off when he was 6 days old.

He's alert more and more every day and I love the moments I have with him, gazing into his eyes. I can feel our bond strengthening with every moment we spend together and... boy, am I in trouble. I love him SO. MUCH.

I predict someday he will substitute easy belching for difficult burping. But, until then, the extreme cuteness will remain. Great picture BTW. See you in a couple of weeks.

One more comment. Do you think it is possible that he has been paying attention while in the womb and decided that he had better take this cuteness thing seriously or Addy would get all the perks? It appears you have a competition on your hands. Keep the video camera warmed up.
